Florence Pevehouse, 84, died at Norman Regional Hospital in Norman on Monday, July 10. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, at the First Baptist Church with pastors Lavonn Brown and Travis Wiginton officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rosedale Cemetery in Ada under the direction of Mayes Funeral Directors of Norman. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at Mayes Funeral Home.
Ms. Pevehouse was born Dec. 30, 1915, in Sasakwa to Sam and Clara Pevehouse. She attended Ada High School and later earned her bachelor's degree in languages from East Central University. She earned her master's degree in secondary education from the University of Oklahoma and then did graduate work in psychology, guidance and counseling. She first taught at Clayton, then at Stigler and Sulphur, before coming to Norman High in 1953 where she taught languages and served as guidance counselor. She spent 10 years sponsoring the Norman High Pep Club. She served in the Norman Public School System for a total of 41 years.
She was a member of First Baptist Church Norman for 46 years and enjoyed the Bible classes and women's mission group. She also enjoyed her activities in Delta Kappa Gamma, the Business and Professional Women and the FB Chapter of the PEO Sisterhood. She enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles and watching television. Her favorite pasttime was visiting her many friends and relatives. She had resided at Rivermont for the past five years before moving to Manor Care Health Care.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Clara Pevehouse, four sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include a niece who she raised, Shirley Brister of Sand Springs; a sister, Helen Hoskins, of Eufaula; a brother, Melvin Pevehouse of Ada; a
sister-in-law, Jean Pevehouse of Norman; and many nieces and nephews.
